The name Mayalla comes from the word “Maya” which stands for the ancestors of the indigenous community that is inhabiting Guatemala nowadays. They have managed to maintain a lot of remains of their rich ancient cultural heritage such as their beautiful traditional clothing. The "la" stands for the Spanish word "allá" and means " Maya there". We want to preserve the Mayan’s cultural heritage and share this traditional art form with the world. The bird represents the Quetzal, the beautiful national bird of Guatemala. He is colorful and so rare to see, just as the items that Mayalla creates.
